Traditional recipes and creative gourmet will be among the top events this early November in Madeira. If you are a food lover travelling Madeira, you will not want to miss out!
Roasted Chestnuts on an Open Fire!
In the hidden parish and beautiful valley of the town of Curral das Freiras, the traditional chestnut festival goes on. This festival roots back to the 1500’s when the community was built as a parish from pirates – as the story goes! Nevertheless, a community grew as did its use of chestnuts. Chestnut trees flourish in this area, and so, as a tradition, the surpluses of chestnuts are celebrated with special recipes and events.
Some of the recipes include fire roasted chestnuts, chestnut cake, and chestnut liquor to name a few! Also, a gastronomy contest is put on by local restaurants and there are many other events as well. This festival is for one day on November 1st.
Regional Flavours – World Gourmet – a new event
From November 3rd-7th, Funchal will hold its first edition of the Madeira Gourmet Festival. This amazing festival will feature Star Chefs such as Portuguse Luís Baena and other top Star Chefs both locally and world-wide with a focus on creation and innovation.
These Star Chefs will be asked to prepare their creations from the place they represent, assigned meals and more. The events will take place at selected locations including Blandy’s Wine Lodge – famous for its wine, and striking luxury hotels such as Reid’s Palace, Tivoli, Cliff Bay, Royal Savoy and Casino Park. These exquisite meals will be presented to its guests.
If you attend one of these events, we would love to hear about your experience!
